The Social Work department was started in the year 2010, and Bachelor of Social Work was started in the year 2015. The department has well experienced and qualified faculty members. The primary mission of the Social Work profession is to enhance human well-being.
The department has made significant impacts by offering a progressive, hands-on curriculum that infuses social justice values and multicultural perspectives through education and field work practice.
The M.Phil Research Programme is introduced in the academic year 2017-2018.
The Department will excel in training social workers with values to make a significant contribution to the society.
To prepare social work trainees who will empower themselves and work towards empowerment of individuals, groups, and communities to live in harmony.
The Department of Social Work is the innate result of the ethos of the Patrician Order established in 1808 by Bishop Daniel Delany. The department had its humble beginning in the year 2010 with the MSW course offering two specializations, Human Resource Management and Medical & Psychiatric Social Work. The department initiated the BSW programme in the year 2015 and added Community Development as an additional specialization in 2018. In 2018 the M.Phil. Research Programme was initiated.
The Department has 9 faculty members and 230 students working as a team to achieve the professional values of social work. The department works with the focus of giving strong theoretical foundation which is put to test on the rough terrains of life. To put theory into practice, the department networks with over 52 organizations in different settings including industry, community, medical and psychiatric settings.
The Social Work department organizes curricular and co-curricular activities to develop aspiring students into leaders to impact the quality of lives of people and society. The department carries out these programs under “Sowers Forum ” ((Social Workers-Sowing the Seeds of Change) which is designed to call attention to create social justice, social awareness, sensitising masses, reaching the unreached and to bring about a change in the society. The Department conducts national seminars, workshops and awareness programs to promote social work values, beliefs and ethics through social consciousness among the social work students, and build professional social workers. The activities provide a platform to voice the students’ opinions and open up career opportunities.
To achieve holistic development, the Department has initiated Patrician Research, Consultancy and Training Division (PRCTD).This wing is aimed at providing professional and technical advice and service to individuals, organizations and business undertakings to address their issues with appropriate solutions. It focuses to extend its services for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to enhance sustainable social development. This unit organizes research workshop, conduct research seminars and paper presentations; make international research networks and collaborations.
God has not called us to see through each other, but to see each other through……. Best Wishes…
