Welcome to the Department of Social Work
To an individual who is socially conscious and wanting to refine one’s professional skills to be answers to many questions raised in the society, this is the right place. The department strives in progressive growth through its academic and experiential learning components. The students are enriched apart from the curriculum through certificate courses, guest lectures, workshops, seminars, conferences and other value-added courses. The students are also urged to take up courses in the MOOC platform. The experiential learning pedagogy is strengthened through service -learning, industrial visits and participative learning. Currently it has 9 faculty members with rich experiences preparing the young social work trainees to respond to societal needs with their professional tools.
The department networks with various organisations and its stakeholders with the focus on continuous improvement in its mechanisms to instill basic social work values and to develop and strengthen their competencies in application of social work methods. Sowers is our student’s forum, a platform, to achieve an overall professional and personal development. Sowers works with its motto of ‘being and sowing the seeds of change’, where students are given various opportunities at distinct levels to organize and participate in curricular, co-curricular, cultural and extension activities.
Through active student engagement and community engagement activities; values of service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, importance of human relationships and integrity are instilled in the students. The department collaborates with corporates, institutions, NGOs & INGOs to do action-based research and meaningful community work.
As the Bible in 1 Thessalonians 5:11 inspires us to encourage one another and build one another up, we are deeply committed as a department in proactive support rendered professionally for an enhanced well-being of self, group and community. On behalf of my team, I assure that through this journey with us, you will boost the strength of your character.
