The Department of Psychology was established during the academic year 2015-16 to offer an undergraduate course in B. Sc Psychology. The UG programme of B.Sc. Psychology was inaugurated by Dr. Karunanaidhi, Professor and Head, Department of Psychology, University of Madras and Dr. Veena Easvaradoss, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Psychology, WCC on 26th June, 2015. Thereafter, Rev. Bro. S. Arokiaraj, Director and Secretary; Dr. Fatima Vasanth, Principal and Dr. Geetha Rufus, Vice-Principal addressed the faculty and students.
The department organizes workshops, guest lectures, national seminars, and research oriented programmes to equip students with unique learning experiences. Field training and field visits are organized for hands on experience in the concerned field. The Psychology laboratory is equipped with different apparatus for conducting various psychological experiments. It includes various tools for the measurement of Intelligence, Problem Solving, Attention, Motivation, Learning, etc. Counselling cases including personal counselling, career guidance and group counselling are also dealt with expert’s guidance.
To provide a platform for undergraduates to learn the scientific principles of behaviour and mental process. To make significant contributions to the science and practice of psychology, and to produce professionals who serve the community.
To provide a dynamic learning environment at the undergraduate level and strives to develop and apply knowledge and skill sets that will allow students to engage in the fields of Psychology.

The Department of Psychology at Patrician college of Arts and Science functions very much in congruence with the optimistic quote, provides an enhanced academic exposure to the students and exerts his/her enthusiasm to learn the course to its profound level. At present, the Department of Psychology has a total of 120 students hailing not only from Chennai but from most of the districts in Tamil Nadu.
The Department of Psychology very much ensures that the students gain practical knowledge from the real world by encouraging them to undergo internship in the fields of Clinical / Educational / NGO’s / Corporate for a period of 1 month. The Psychology laboratory is well equipped with various apparatus, questionnaires and test models, as the students acquire experience on how human behaviour and cognitive processes can be easily comprehended by means of various experiments.
The scope in the fields of Psychology has been increasingly felt in clinical fields / industrial fields / Corporate / Special Educators / Research Analyst or even in school settings. After the completion of the undergraduate program in Psychology the student can pursue M.Sc. Psychology, MSW, M.Sc. Sociology and other related PG courses. We assure, by getting into this course at Patrician College of Arts and Science all students will get enlightened by the realm of psychology and witness a progressive transformation in themselves by the end of their course.

The program helps the learner to understand the basic concepts of psychology and human social behaviour. The study also enriches the learner with adequate skills needed to solve the problems faced by human beings throughout the course of life.
Programme Specific Outcomes
The learner develops the necessary skills and knowledge to understand the various theories and models of psychology. The learners also develop the necessary skills to measure aptitude, attitude and adjustment skills among people.
The program also gives an opportunity for Post-Graduation, which helps them to upgrade themselves as a professional in this course.
The Department takes several intiatives every year by organizing various programs for the overall development of students to provide Communication,Technical and Employablity skills to enhance the personality of the students and to face the competitive world.
