The National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) is a project funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). Patrician College of Arts and Science has been an active member of NPTEL from 2017.
The objective of TEL is to enhance the way students learn concepts, to enhance the learning component and to reduce the tedious and mechanical aspects of some of the current learning methods through the use of technology
The objective is to enable students to pursue courses of their choice at a convenient mode of learning. This helps the student to acquire specialized skills in areas of their choice. Also, it helps them obtain certificates enabling their employability in the industry or pursue a suitable higher education program.
Through an online portal, 4-, 8-, or 12-week online courses, typically on topics relevant to students in all years of higher education along with basic core courses in sciences and humanities with exposure to relevant tools and technologies, are being offered. The enrolment to and learning from these courses involves no cost. Following these online courses, an in-person, proctored certification, involving a small amount of fee, exam will be conducted and a certificate provided through the participating institutions and industry, wherever applicable.
Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC) is essentially an asynchronous platform and a process for teaching through pre-recorded lectures, resource video materials, lecture notes, assignments and quizzes, which are usually online and provide self assessment in regular intervals during learning.
To take this initiative forward and to encourage more students across colleges to participate in this initiative, we are setting up SWAYAM-NPTEL chapter in colleges (with the approval of the management) which will be under the headship of a faculty member of the college, who would be our Single Point of Contact (SPOC).
The broad aim of the project NPTEL is to facilitate the competitiveness of Indian industry in the global markets through improving the quality and reach of engineering education. The operational objective of NPTEL is to make high quality learning material available to students of engineering institutions across the country by exploiting the advances in information and communication technology. The target group for this project consists of students and faculty of institutions offering undergraduate engineering programs in India.
