History
The Department of Mathematics (Shift – II) started functioning in the academic year 2017 – 2018 with the inception of Shift – II courses in the college. The department offers allied courses like Allied Mathematics, Business Statistics and Operations Research to the students of B.Sc., B.C.A and B.Com courses.
From the academic year 2020 – 2021, the department has upgraded itself as a Post Graduate Department with the introduction of M.Sc. Mathematics course.
The Department conducts student – centric activities like seminars, workshops and other co – curricular activities through MathTricks Association, the student association of the department.

- To actively engage students in learning Mathematics to enable them to develop creative approaches for problem solving and to apply their acquired mathematical knowledge in their professional career.

I welcome you to the web portal of the Department of Mathematics (Shift II), Patrician College of Arts and Science, Chennai. From the academic year 2020 – 2021, the department has started the M.Sc. Mathematics program. With a team of qualified and competent faculty, we seek to provide a conducive environment for students to develop analytic thinking skills, enhance their problem solving abilities and hence to apply them for solving real world problems. Special efforts are put in by faculty to prepare the students for NET/GATE exams in Mathematics.
The Department periodically organizes seminars, workshops, invited talks and conferences in order to instill research culture among the faculty and students. The faculty and students are encouraged to publish research papers in journals of repute. The department aspires to upgrade as a research department in near future.
Through the MathTricks Association, the student association of the department, students organize and participate in intra – departmental and inter – college competitions. This will entrust the student with qualities like leadership and responsibility.
The students are meticulously trained for facing interview and on – campus recruitment drive is conducted by Source Hub, the Training and placement Cell of Patrician College. Special coaching is provided to students for preparing for competitive examinations like UPSC CSE, SBI/IBPS Bank Exam, SSC Exams, and TNPSC Exams etc. by Patrician College Empowerment Cell (PCEC).
